The Durham University Justice Society is a student division of JUSTICE, the leading human rights and law reform organisation in the UK.
Founded in 1957, JUSTICE subsequently became the UK section of the International Commission of Jurists and works to strengthen the civil, criminal and administrative judicial system.
As an all-party organisation, JUSTICE has representatives from all three main political parties on their ruling council. JUSTICE's work is characterised by the upholding of the rule of law by intervening in Domestic, European Court of Human Rights and Supreme Court cases. JUSTICE also works to challenge decisions that could affect fundamental human rights.
In this student division, we will be engaging with JUSTICE in 5 major ways:
-
The chance to apply and participate in their projects which review the judicial system
-
Opportunities to network across the human rights legal sector
-
A mentor/mentee programme with fosters a student's relationship with a human rights legal practitioner
-
Engage with JUSTICE's online audience by writing up case briefs to be published on their website
-
Attending and organising conferences and events with JUSTICE
