The Annual Debate was hosted by the Justice Society in collaboration with Durham European Law Institute (DELI) and the Human Rights Centre.

The motion was “This House believes that EU Member States must provide more support to the Greek Government in dealing with the refugee crisis on the Greek Islands in the Aegean Sea”.

Participants were given the opportunity to engage with different disciplines including EU law, human rights law, politics and economics, as well as to hone their debating skills. Debaters were also provided with the opportunity to be mentored by experts in immigration law. Mentors included Camila Zapata-Besso (Barrister at Doughty Street Chambers specialising in asylum, immigration and international law) and Greg Ó Ceallaigh (Garden Court Chambers specialising in human rights, asylum and immigration law).
